Well-Lit Chess Pieces online auction!

Marjorie Kouns, artist and producer of the Well-Lit Chess Pieces, invited people to make Washington Square Park their outdoor living room amidst the lampshades and chess game pieces throughout the park. In the springtime especially, they add a homey feel to the park and can even be seen as tulips that suddenly bloomed and made the park even more charming for its residents. None of the residents wanted to see the lampshades nor chess pieces go away and thus the project was triple extended from its original end date in September 2005 to April 2006. Due to park renovations however, the entire exhibit must come down. But all is not yet lost.
Kouns has teamed up with BenefitEvents.com to create this auction event celebrating a nearly year long run of the exhibit fiscally sponsored by the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council with thanks to City of New York Parks and Recreation Department's Temporary Public Outdoor Art Program as well as Materials For the Arts, www.abetlaminati.com , U.S. Chess Federation, and select corporate sponsors.
One lampshade was included at The Greenwich Village-Chelsea Chamber of Commerce, Gala Dinner Dance on April 11, 2006 at NYU Rosenthal Pavilion, New York City. The sparkling evening featured dinner, dancing and bidding at their silent auction and raffle as well as announcement of the BenefitEvents.com online auction.
