Richard Gere is an internationally renowned film actor, social activist, and philanthropist. For nearly three decades, he has worked to draw attention and resolution to humanitarian crises rooted in inequality and intolerance. Deepening his commitment to philanthropy in 1991, Mr. Gere founded the Gere Foundation through which he has served as a longtime advocate of human rights and charitable causes. The Gere Foundation is a small grant-giving organization dedicated to the cultural preservation of Tibet and advocacy for the Tibetan people; public health and organizations devoted to addressing human rights violations throughout the world. Mr. Gere has received honors from amfAR, Amnesty International, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, the Harvard AIDS Institute, Hadassah International and the OneXOne Foundation. He is the recipient of the prestigious Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award, the Marian Anderson Award and the Humanitarian Award for Global Change from CARE.
